Philippine Idol - week II (R&B/Soul)

Ok. Here it is... The second week of Philippine Idol! Last Saturday, the theme was soul/R&B, and each 12 finalists got to choose a song from that genre. Since no one was eliminated last week, two finalists were eliminated yesterday... and they were Stef and Drae.

Honestly, I didn't expect Drae to be eliminated this early in the competition. Sayang! Cause this guy is so talented. Plus, he really does look like Tobey Maguire. Hehe. I loved his performance this week, but the Filipinos voted... and well, Drae's out. But I'm sure there'll be more of him in the future. I hope some network honchos would give him a chance. I'd really like to see more of him. Actually, I think the judges didn't agree that he was eliminated, but they couldn't do anything... after all, the whole competition is based on the viewer's votes. Damn! As for Stef, I also didn't expect her to be eliminated. Actually, my mind was set on Jelli. I don't know, but I also didn't like her performance, though I've got to admit that it was her best performance in the competition. Even Francis M. who seems to be 'mesmerize' by her (I don't really think so...) wasn't satisfied with what she did. So does Mamita and Mr. C... Well, she's pretty... so I guess, it helped.

Anyway, I'm glad that Mau was safe this week. But I was surprised in the selection of the Bottom Four: Gian, Stef, Drae and Pow. I mean, come on! Pow? You've got to be kidding me! She's not my favorite, but I'm so sure, everyone likes her... and everyone will vote for her. What's this? a conspiracy? Hmm... I smell something fishy.

Philippine Idol - week I (OPM Night)

As promised, Here's the playlist for week I of Philippine Idol. This week's theme is OPM and because it's OPM night, the 12 finalists sang all-pinoy songs. Got that? Anyway, no one was eliminated for this week due to the fact that the telecommunication lines aren't exactly working yet for some regions. So, some votes couldn't get through... and some, like me, was not even able to watch the show because of the black-out that went on for 4 days. So, thank God for Youtube!

Anyway, as for the bottom three, I think it was Arms, Mau and Jelli. I think the only one deserving to be on the bottom 3 was Jeli, but what the heck! the judges loved her performance that night... For me, the ones who stand-out where Mau and Pow.

I just noticed that masyado yatang mabait ang mga judges. Only Mr. C really points out their mistakes. Miss Pilita is too kind, even though she told Drae that something is missing in his performance. The way she said it is still... in a nice way. Very Paula indeed. But I think Miss Pilita is much much credible to be the judge. hehe. Also, I seldom hear Francis M. make a bad review of the finalists performances - even if they really suck! I wish he would comment like Mr. C 'cause Randy Jackson (which I believe is his counterpart in the American Idol) also tells his comment as it is. If he likes it, you're in his dog pound, if not... well, you'll definitely hear about it. HaAy...

Here's the Wildcard Special of Philippine Idol. Only 5 boys and 5 girls were selected by the judges to perform on the Wildcard Night. Unfortunately, Freddie Cabael Jr. and Robert Bernadas was not able to make it. Sayang! Anyway, I'm glad that Gian, Ramirr, Ken and Mau were selected to perform that night. From the 10 wildcard performers only 2 boys and 2 girls are going to make it to the Top 12. And these Four were Ken, Gian, Stef and Mau!!! Although I'm a big fan of Ramirr on the guys night, I'm gonna have to agree with Francis M and Mr. C that he was on his comfort zone. I wish he could have sang a different song, but as much as I don't want to admit it, I think that Rock is the only genre that he's good at. I mean, can you imagine him singing an R&B song? Definitely, Not! Plus, the act of singing to his girlfriend is just too much! It was so... hmm... baduy? And he was not able to do justice to my favorite Aerosmith song. Actually, before he started singing, my cousin and I were thinking of what song Ramirr have chosen, and I told my cousin that he should sing 'I don't wanna miss a thing' and voila! he just said that he's going to sing it! Hehe. What a coincidence! ;) But of course, I was a bit disappointed on the way he sang it. Sayang eh! Hindi nakuha yung sigaw ni Steven Tyler. Konti na lang.

So moving on... On the results night, Ken and Gian were chosen for the boys. And for the girls, It was Mau and Stef. Mau even commented that it wasn't a singing contest but more of a beauty contest. I have to agree with that. Even the judges agree with her...

Continuation of the Philippine Idol's semi-finals. This time around, it's the girls chance to prove their worth for the much coveted (for now) Top 12 slots. Base on their respective performances, I must say that I think the boys did a better show in totality... But the vocal prowess... It's definitely a girls-night-out! I already have my top pick of course, and they are: Pow, Maureen, Armarie, Ira, Ynah and Suey. Anyway, the format still follows that 4 would be chosen on results night and 2 would be chosen on the wildcard special. I can't help but acknowledge the fact that Mr. C asked the viewers to really vote for the one who deserves to be in the Top 12. "Kayo (the viewers), makinig naman kyo..." --can't help but smile on that one.

Unfortunately, on results night (September 10), only 2 of my picks made it to the finals... (once again!). I don't know what's wrong with the other viewers... but I really think that Mau deserves to be on the top 4! By the way, the top 4 were: Pow, Apple, Armarie and Jelli.

On results night, they announced that only 5 boys and 5 girls would compete in the wildcard special this saturday. And these 10 competitors would be chosen by the judges. But I was not able to watch the monday idol update with Heart Evangelista, so i don't have any idea on who made it on the Wildcard Show. Let's just watch and see on Saturday!

Philippine Idol Semi-Finals (Boys Edition)

It's already the semi-finals for Philippine Idol. Last Saturday was the boy's performance night. Out of 12 boys, 6 would be chosen. 4 of them made it to the finals on results night (sunday) and only 2 more would be chosen on the wildcard special. I already had my choice for the top 6: Ramir, Reymond, Drae, Ken, Robert and Gian. But come results night, only 2 of my bets made it. What happened? Parang naging Philippine Text Idol yata yung competition. Those who were credible enough lost to those who really didn't have anything much to offer... Ang mga Pilipino nga nman!

The four guys who automatically made it to the finals are: Drae Ybañez, Reymond Sajor, Miguel Mendoza III, and Jan Nieto. --much to everyone's surprise, Ramir did not make it! shame on those who did not vote for him!

I like Drae and Reymond. Miguel is one of my picks too (plus, he's a student of my aunt in De La Salle-Zobel). But as for Jan, well... he has a good voice. Maybe it's the song 'coz I wasn't able to make a connection with him while he was singing. I also like Reymond's professionalism. However, nothing could beat the 'Bed of Roses' for me.

This is Rain's music video of 'It's Raining'... He's such a good dancer. This is currently my favorite MV.

FYI. Rain is a Korean artist. First saw him while watching Full House, a Korean drama he starred in with Song Hye-gyo in 2004, which I've only been watching now.

I'm also currently discovering/learning more about K-Pop since I found out that he was also a singer. So I was looking at his videos and this was by far my favorite. This song was released also in 2004 from his album, 'It's Raining'. I guess I'll just have to do a more in-depth introduction of him and his albums in another post. So for now, let's enjoy this masterpiece of a music video.
